Darren's show-business career began at the young age of 9, when he started to perform magic for friends and family. Darren had first became inspired to learn magic soon after he saw his first live magic show — the touring show of Harry Blackstone, Jr., whom he saw at Westbury Music Fair near his home in Long Island, NY. After the show, Darren got the chance to meet Blackstone and express his interest in the art. The meeting led to Blackstone giving Darren his first trained dove, which Darren worked to incorporate into a magic routine.

The resulting dove act led to numerous performances within the Tri-State areas around his home — Darren gained his first experiences at private functions and public events, then decided to enter competitions. At the age of 14, Darren won First Place Stage Magic with his bird act at the Tannen's Magic Camp, the only magic camp of its kind. Having won several awards, Darren soon found himself performing all over the US within the magic convention circuit.

Before Darren began to merge his love of magic with his love of music, he received awards from his peers in the field for his bird act. In 1996, The Society of American Magicians presented him with the Milbourne Christopher Award for Notable Contributions to the Art of Magic.

Lo and behold, in 1996 fate would have it that Darren was given the opportunity to perform at Westbury Music Fair… the place it had all started years earlier with Blackstone. Since Harry Blackstone Jr.'s death in 1997, Darren has worked to carry on the Blackstone legacy, at one point working with the family on a show to be called "Blackstone Presents…", featuring the famed magician's classic illusions. While the show was never fully developed, Darren does incorporate a tribute to the Blackstone legacy in his new show, as he performs the famous "Floating Light Bulb" illusion.

After his successful Off-Broadway acting debut, Darren left the east coast for Las Vegas. There he became a regular performer and Magic Director at Caesars Magical Empire, the $47 million dollar experience designed for Caesars Palace. Darren kept Las Vegas as his base, though he continued to travel with his show — including performances in the Caribbean, cruise ships in Alaska, and abroad in Spain and Germany. Then, in 1999, Darren received a World Magic Award for Best Up & Coming Magician. The presentation of this honor was preceded by Darren's performance on the organization's nationally televised award show.

In between directing and performing at Caesars, Darren would also travel to Los Angeles to perform at the famous Magic Castle in Hollywood. It was there that Darren caught the attention of Irene Larsen, widow of the Castle's founder, Bill Larsen. Irene, a long-time friend of Siegfried & Roy, tried several times to introduce Darren to the illusionists, however they could never get to Los Angeles to see one of his performances.

The opportunity didn't present itself until November of 1999, after Darren had scored his own show at Las Vegas' Flamingo Hilton. It was during the show's six-month run that Siegfried & Roy were finally introduced to Darren's work.

Praised by both the Las Vegas Sun and the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Flamingo show won critical acclaim and led to Siegfried & Roy engaging Darren in a contract — something they'd never done before.

After premiering “Siegfried & Roy present Darren Romeo, the Voice of Magic” in 2002, the show continued to grow in leaps and bounds.  Versions of the show have toured in New York, Tampa (Florida), China, Biloxi (Mississippi), Branson (Missouri, Atlantic City (New Jersey), Reno (Nevada), Fresno (California) and Berlin (Germany).

In recent years, Darren has received several awards including "Magician of the Year" from the Magic Castle. "Show of the Year" (2 years in a row!) from the Branson Critic Association and "Entertainer of the Year" from the International Magician's Society.

After only a 9 week run in Branson during the summer of 2004, Darren was offered a Multi-Million dollar deal to return for the seasons of 2005- 2007.  Darren also toured other locations in-between his schedule in Branson.

Currently, the show is scheduled to run in San Francisco for the Summer of 2008.
